Welcome to my blog 'Tanja Training Horses'. I have been involved with horses for over 15 years, starting in pony club with an old standardbred (that i still own!) and currently own 6 of my own horses and 13 if you count my partner Phil's horses. We live south of Coffs Harbour with our horses, 4 dogs, 2 cats and some chooks.
From the old pony club days I headed into the dressage field and had a thoroughbred gelding that I competed in dressage and hacking with. To compliment my dressage I headed to my first Ken Faulkner clinic back in 2006 and have attended his clinics whenever I could and continue to do so.
In April 2008 Purchased a Black and White overo colt, that I have competed in dressage (only walk trot) and am heading into the Western area of competition. Being an english girl at heart I am finding the changes interesting to say the least. Over the past few years i have bred a gorgeous little filly (not that I'm biased!) who just turned 2 in February, that I am starting at the moment, purchased a sweet little quarter pony filly who is 3 that I am also starting, and most recently purchased a 5 year old gelding who has had a great start to his education, but not found his home yet - im looking to work him solidly for around a month and hopefully sell him to his new home. Put these 3 horses and my stallion together and i thought it would make for an interesting journey - hence the blog!
I plan to be very honest in the blog, and post photos and videos. Not being a pro trainer i really have no time limit, so i do like to take my time to give the horses the best start.
Each horse will be trained a little differently, and my young filly I am planning on following the book by Anthony Crossley - training the young horse. It is a step by step guide which results in a medium dressage horse in 2 years - lets see if i can pull it off!
Hope you enjoy reading the blog and please post any comments or questions and share with your friends.
Tanja
