Today is the day that I have decided to get refocused, now that all the busy stuff seems to be gone & get my routine back on track. I took Rocky & Boogie down to our river flat paddock - they can rest & think about their training until the first week of July. This gives me just over a month to work with Cooper for shows, Dicko to Sell, Shadow (my old boy) to keep him fit, and to finish off squizzy, all i need to do with her is establish the canter and canter aids.
Had the farrier out this morning, Cooper is really sensitive to the nails being hammered in to his hooves, and generally plays up a bit. Today was the first day he only played up a tiny bit - and nowhere near as bad as he has previously AND we even got a comment from the farrier that he had improved.
After the farrier left i put him in our roundyard - THE BEST INVESTMENT EVER!! and just worked him at liberty. I havent worked him for about a week (rain, shoe fell off, busy with other stuff) and I always like to try and reconnect with him before i just hop on. That, and the fact that i just love doing liberty work with him. He seems to really enjoy it aswell. I found a bit of a stuck spot - i can run along beside him to the left (with me in his nearside eye) and he is pretty good, but when i swap sides and directions he gets a little worried. Probably because even though i am aware of working him both ways and on both sides, ultimatley i probably spend most time on the near side of him, and my body position probably changes and he is a little confused. I worked him a little and he kept changing sides to put me in his other eye. Phil suggested sending him and drawing him in a couple of times in that direction, which i did, and he was still a little stuck, but i did manage to walk beside him with my stick on his back in a couple of full circles.
Enough for today - gives me something to work on tomorrow.
